NEW MOON STONE GRINDING SERVICE
New Moon is now offering stone grinding! As you have
come to expect, we are offering high-precision, custom
stone grinding using only the best equipment and
techniques. Our Wintersteiger Micro 1 Grinder is the
most widely-used grinder for cross country skis. We
only grind non-metal edge Nordic skis, keeping our
equipment and your race skis free of metal shavings.
WHY GRIND?
Stone grinding is the best METHOD to refresh ski bases
that have been damaged, oxidized or worn out. normal
wear and tear will eventually make a ski base convex.
In addition, poor snow conditions can leave bases
scratched or badly gouged. Long term exposure to the
atmosphere will also oxidize the delicate polyethylene
base materials. years of ironing medium and cold
weather waxes can effectively “seal” microscopic base
pores — vital to wax absorption — creating an
impermeable plastic sheet that is only fast for a few
Ks. Stone Grinding will flatten a ski’s base, open up
its pores and leave a pristine finish, allowing easy
wax absorption and many Ks of fast skiing. if
desired, you can request a condition-specific,
specialty grind or a broad spectrum universal grind
depending on your needs and goals. Slow skis never
make for a fun day — a fast grind will help you enjoy
the experience that much more.
THE NEW MOON WAY
Before skis are ground, each pair is individually
evaluated and hand-tuned as needed. following the
grinding process, each ski immediately receives a
generous layer of base-prep wax. This prevents
oxidization of an untreated base and provides a
protective coating for shipping or transport. It is
recommended that 2-3 more layers of base-prep are
ironed in before applying the “wax of the day.” We
also provide a ready-to-ski waxing service that leaves
skis fully prepped and ready upon pick up or arrival
at your door. remember, freshly-ground skis will
become faster with frequent follow-up waxing. allow
6-10 waxings before skis are fully up to speed. For

- GRIND MENU
OLD MAN WINTER COLD GRIND. $55.
General temp. range: 12ºF and colder,
low to high humidity.
Perfect for your cold day race skis, this is a
closely-spaced, linear grind for the really cold days
on the trail. A fine linear pattern minimizes
friction on cold, dry, fresh snow crystals and is
recommended for those days you walk out and hear the
snow squeak under your feet. Old Man Winter is a
shallow, low-impact grind that can be refreshed and
repeated many times.
NEW MOON UNIVERSAL. $55.
General temp. range: 10ºF to 34ºF, medium to high
humidity.
The New Moon Universal is our most popular grind that
will bring new and old skis back to factory condition
with fast, flat bases. We recommend this grind if you
ski one pair of skis in many different conditions.
This versatile grind works especially well for highly
variable Midwestern and New England snow conditions,
including new snow, transformed snow, machine-tilled
and man-made snow — always a safe choice for the high
school or citizen racer.
NEW MOON UNIVERSAL DRY Grind. $60.
General temp. range: 10ºF to 34ºF, low humidity.
The Universal Dry is a great performer in the dry or
new snows, often encountered in the Rockies. While
best suited for low humidity, it can also handle
moderate snow moisture, if needed. We recommend this
grind if you are skiing in varying altitude or
marathon races where significant temperature changes
may be experienced.
SKIING IN A T-SHIRT WARM GRIND. $55.
General temp. range: 32ºF and up,
medium
to high humidity.
We’ve all been there, and you must be ready with some
special skis. As the title suggests, this grind can
channel water like a rain gutter, — a necessity for
warm weather racing. Intended for 32 degrees and
warmer, this grind utilizes deep channels to handle
snow moisture and reduce speed-killing suction, while
helping your skis move over wet transformed and corn
snow crystals that are associated with warm-weather
and spring skiing.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES OFFERED:
PRE-GRIND TUNING AND REPAIR. $15 and up.
Some skis that are badly scratched and gouged may
require significant repair work before grinding. In
most cases, scratches, gouges and minor edge damage
can be repaired. In addition, strongly convex or
concave bases can be steel-scraped to acheive a flat
base before grinding. Skis will be evaluated upon
arrival for repair and tuning needs. We are glad to
address any tuning requests that you may have.
READY-TO-SKI WAXING SERVICE.
add $25 to any grind.
After your grind, we will add 3 layers of base-prep
wax, with extensive soaking, and the
condition-specific, low-fluoro wax of your choice as
the final layer. Your skis arrive at your door
scraped, brushed and ready to hit the trails..
