Balla is the word for a kid or child in the Altai Mountains so it seemed appropriate for our kids version of the Hok. The Hok is a playful ski even for adults, so we felt it was the ideal type of ski for a kid to learn to ski on. Yes, it is slower then a regular ski, but the Balla Hok is stable, easy to use, and can go up or down with equal ease. It is the perfect tool to just go out and play in the snow. The Balla has inserts that match the 3pin hole pattern used on the regular Hoks and also matches the Kuna universal we have designed just for kids. This binding has been in the works for a number of years and is now complete and ready to go. We feel the Balla Hok, especially when matched with our Kuna universal binding, can be the first ski starting at age 3 or so and go up to 8 or 10 years old, depending on the size and proficiency of the child using it. We have had a lot of testing with some kids around our region and results have been really positive. The Balla Hok comes with 3 inserts matching the 3 pin tele hole pattern (same as the adult Hoks) but no heel piece inserts. We have had people also direct mount kids NNN bindings and a standard 3 pin (like the old round bail bindings) would use the back 2 inserts and drill the front hole. The 3 pin we offer would fit the inserts as is.

Best Fit Form (Can be sold without the binding if you'd like to use backcountry boots. Call 715-634-8685 for more information.) The Hok is designed as an easy to use ski for the backcountry. Its short wide dimensions makes the ski incredibly maneuverable, and the integrated climbing skin gives the Hok great traction for climbing. The right balance of running base and skin material makes the skis' downhill speed manageable and easy to control. Bridging cross-country skis and snowshoes, the Hok combines the maneuverability and ease of use found in snowshoes with the ski’s efficiency of sliding forward rather than lifting and stepping with each stride. The 125 is better as a snowshoe substitute, more maneuverable, better in thick woods and brush, lighter, and a little better grip. The 125 is also easier to control and use for those unfamiliar with skis. Both sizes turn well with the 125 being a bit easier due to the length, but also a bit less stable at speed. The 145 sizing means the Hoks even work great going downhill. More glide, but a bit less maneuverable in tight spaces. Good flotation for deep snow. THE FEATURES The Hok features a synthetic climbing skin integrated into the base of the ski, steel edges for durability, and a light weight cap construction. In an effort to minimize our carbon footprint, we use, a sustainable paulownia wood core reinforced with a combination of organic, natural fibers and fiberglass. Simple graphics and natural fibers combine with design themes from the the Altai Mountains for a unique look. BINDINGS The skis comes with inserts matching the extended 75mm norm hole pattern. This is compatible with current 75mm 3pin bindings as well as the universal binding we are offering with the ski. We also have an adapter plate that is compatible with Rottefella NNN BC and Solomon BC bindings.
