Birkie® Trail Run A Success
Last weekend, the Birkie® Trail Run took place under a beautiful, sunny sky. Although a bit cool in the morning, runners and trekkers were treated to near perfect temperatures and amazing fall colors throughout the day.
This year, New Moon had two teams competing for top honors in the trail run.
Composed from Team New Moon members and friends, team 'This is Nutts!' competing in the Mixed 6-Person Relay for the shop had tons of experience. After a bit of confusion on the course, and according to support chief Lori, "raging mood swings and questionable attitudes," the entire line-up came together for the last leg, crossing the finish line as a team. Captain Daryl said, "It was a wonderful day with a lot of friends." This is Nutts had a solid finish in 6th place.
As the reigning champions, the New Moon 6-man Marathon Relay team had a lot to live up to (including the fact that co-owner Kristy wanted Joel to win another pair of shoes). The relay started out with Joel on the first leg to Boedecker Rd.—the shortest but hilliest section. Ian took on the 2nd leg and persevered even with an abscessed tooth. But here's where the race took a turn and the team began to experience the 'John the Dane effect.' As if taking after his mythical namesake, the mischievous, elf-like Nisse, John had a few pranks up his sleeve. When it was time for Ian's hand-off, John ran just out of Ian's reach. And, instead of smoothly passing the baton to Dustin, John tossed it off the trail—this is not proper hand-off protocol, John.
But, after Darrell's leg of the race and despite all of John the Dane's naughty hijinks, Team New Moon prevailed once again, winning the 6-person Men's Marathon Relay and receiving the coveted Salomon shoes. It is worth noting, that they were the only team signed up for that particular category, but, nonetheless, they did an amazing job!
