Twin skins are the real deal. Twin Skins have spiked a resurgence in classic skiing. These skis utilize strips of synthetic fabric embedded in the kick zone for excellent performance across the spectrum from dry to wet snow, icy/glazed or man-made snow. They are much faster in both wet, sticky snow and cold, abrasive snow than skis with “fish scales,” and because you are not using klisters or sticky kick waxes, your skis don’t pick up leaves and pine needles. Skis: Twin Skin Superlite Skis are race constructed like their ultra-light race cousins, but are constructed for greater stability and sure-footedness - a huge plus when the grooming is not-so-good or in deeper snow. But, the big story is the skins - unlike traditional, 'fish-scale' waxless skis, the Superlite uses special hair strips for grip during the kick. The skins drag less for better glide and they grip in all conditions, even on icy and wet tracks. Salomon’s Outside 82 is a waxless, metal-edged, high-rockered but easy-kicking light off-trail ski. This makes the ski super easy to venture off trail. Uphills and downhills are more fun with this new ski tech. Sized on only two lengths 127 and 187 cm which is much shorter than traditional but not as short as ski shoes like Altai Hok. Maneuverability, lightweight and ease of use is noticeable. Outside binding is compatible with NNN BC boots all the way back to the 1990s, but with a much easier open and closing ergonomics. Very nice for cold fingers or bulky clothing. Boots: Fischer OTX Adventure. Warm, padded and comfortable winter backcountry boot. This boot is not as stiff as the high performance Tele gear but is good for distance or overnight winter camping. It has a traditional NNN BC sole for traction around camp or resort.
